In additional to presenting massive challenges for in-house HR professionals, the spread of Covid - 19 is also seriously affecting the work HR consultants and interim professional do.
Any HR, L&D or organisational health consulting firm or individual will be affected by the ways in which government, clients and individual respond to the current pandemic.
HR consultants have already been impacted far more by the uncertainty of Brexit caused. A range of geographically can be helpful, but in this case there is nowhere to hide. Consultants will be hit because they can't go into organisations and see, hear and feel reality. And given the nature of our trade, the immediate impacts may have greater long term consequences.
These impacts include less business through potentially having to isolate themselves, open workshops cancelled, paid speaking engagements cancelled, and challenges for organisations will drive funding issues across industries.
The obvious steps are to replace face to face with digital, virtual and technology based meetings. It's doubtful the government will offer any form of compensation that HR consultants would be eligible for. There are many businesses, well beyond HR consulting, all being impacted.
Small and medium size business simply do not have the resources to take the hit on behalf of the political intent.
There is uncertainty about the future, however there is the opportunity to change consultants' world of work. There is the need for outcome instead of worked hours; meaning giving your best outcomes and deliverable. HR consultants to minimise their own uncertainty and continue to provide great services to clients.
