Constructive behavior is positive reaction to the blockage of a desired goal and can take main forms as below:
Problem Solving – is the removal of the banner for example, repairing a damaged machine or by passing an incorporative superior.
Restructuring or compromise - is the substitution of an alternative goal, although such a goal may be a lower order – for example, taking an additional part time job because of failure to be promoted to a higher grading.
Hindrance is negative response to the blockage of a desired goal and results in a defense form of behavior. There are many possible reactions to frustration caused by the failure to achieve a desired goal. These can be summarised under broad headings: aggressive, regression, fixation and withdrawal.
