While you are on furlough you are still employed so no dates need to change here on your CV. However, if you no longer work there anymore you can simply write: made redundant following a period of furlough. Your period of employment finished the date you were made redundant not when you started furlough.
If you are laid off, for instance, include your past employer’s name, your job title, and your beginning and end dates of employment. If you were furloughed, on the other hand, you don’t need to include an end date for the business since you are technically not laid off.
Frequently asked Q &A
Should I put furlough on my CV?
This may be as a result of being put on temporary furlough leave, or simply due to the restrictions on movement currently being imposed by the government, but it could be the great opportunity for you to get some skills on your CV and pre-emptively give your career a boost
What should I do if I want to get another job while on furloughed?
Getting a new job won’t affect your furlough pay. If you get a new job, you should make sure you can go back to the employer who furloughed you when they decide to bring you back.
What should I put on my CV if furloughed?
While you were on furlough you were still employed so no date should change. The government furlough scheme was a saving grace for many, providing income when your organisation needed to streamline their workforce. However, being furloughed poses a very interesting dilemma - particularly for those who have been furloughed for longer periods - of how to present furloughed time on their CV.
HOW TO UPDATE MY CV WITH FURLOUGHED TIME
There are many ways you could present furloughed time, and it really depends on the format of your CV.
DESCRIPTIVE PARAGRAPH APPROACH
If your work experience is structured in descriptive paragraphs for each role, you could include it in the first line here and explain the additional development you have achieved during this time, with the timing clearly indicated.
A ONE - LINE APPROACH
You could subtly include below your title, company an dates in your most recent role. This would convey honestly and transparent without complicating matters.
IN YOUR BIO
You could mention it in your bio paragraph at the top of your CV, this is a good approach as it gives your CV an air of the “living document “ and shows that you are conscious of being completely up to date and transparent.
